Reptiles are totally dependent on the temperature of their environment, it is therefore essential to provide an appropriate heating system for your terrarium set up. The heating can be used in conjunction with the lighting system when needed. Next to the lighting system and closely related, an appropriate heating system is probably the most important factor of the terrarium set up. Whereas lighting provides a form of radiant heat, some heating systems rely on conduction for the heat transfer. Heat conduction is used by reptiles in the wild by basking on warmed-up surfaces like rocks, sand, soil or branches.
Reptiles and Amphibians are ectotherms, or cold blooded. In their natural bio type, Reptiles and Amphibians often use surfaces heated by the sun (branches, rocks or the forest floor) as a heat conductor. Our range of heaters simulate the natural conditions by heating the substrate which stimulates the thermo-regulating behaviour of reptiles. |
