Barley straw is in a concentrated pellet form which can be applied to the pond in a net bag or crumbled and sprinkled directly onto blanket weed around pond margins.
As it rots in the water, the straw encourages the growth of micro-organisms which feed the algae and releases compounds which inhabit algal growth, blanket weed loses its grip and it floats away to be filtered out.
